Carbon material crease?

Played with making some carbon grips, but the material I have has sat for long enough the fold creases in the side don't seem to want to work out no matter how hard I try. Any tips?

Thanks.
Phil

I've found that the heat shrink tube from soller composites works really well for the carbon fiber sleeves but, not so well with the fiberglass/carbon fiber mix. So, here's what I've done. After you heat and shrink the tube over the grip. While the grip is still warm wrap masking tape as tight as you can on a bias from one end then back down covering the grip 100% . I've Used this method a dozen times and have had a lot of luck. I hope this helps .

Good Luck,
<>Dave

Once wetted out, the carbon material will tend to behave a bit better.

You can also open the sleeve up, crease it at 90 degrees to what you have now and sit a book on it for a couple days. That sometimes takes it out.

This doesnt sound right, they spend their life wrapped around a spool creased in the same way. It should ahve came that way or get better since its sits unwound and looser now.

Thanks for the tips, will give a try. Where the grip is nice and large, not so much of an issue, but where it tapers down thinner, harder to work with the crease. Will see if I can't work it out when wetted out as advised.

Other thing I noticed, the first grip I did I tried with the "natural" color fiber/carbon tube... that didn't work well. The white color faded to see through and in some places stayed white. Won't be using this color any more.

White would be glass. Natural carbon fiber is black. I prefer it. Do not particularly like the glass/carbon blend although I've worked with it some.

i spoke to the guy at soller about this. he suggested working the material over a table edge or something similar to get the fibers to relax. the longer they stay in the rolled up form the more they will hold a crease. you can also put them on a cylinder to relax the fibers. the colored sleeves are stiffer and hold the crease from being rolled up more than the softer materials like the carbon only
