Cork grips- how thin can I go ?

Curious to know how thin I can go with a foregrip made out of cork ring- this is going on a surf rod and I have reamed the ID out to close to 3/4 " and the OD is just a tad under an inch. I am thinking I may be getting to the point where it will not hold up if I take it much thinner.

I realize cork tape may be better for this application, I was just experimenting to see if this can be done without the cork ring breaking up on me.

Thanks for any input.

As long as it's fully supported underneath, you can go pretty darn thin. It's only when you have a gap or space underneath that strength or durability would be an issue.

Only thing you need to watch for is splitting during the installation. As much as cork doesn't like to stretch, a really thin walled ring or grip is even worse. Make sure it fits without having to be stretched during installation.
