hey guys this question is actually from my dad but hes not a member.

after recieving my back issue on the NGC setup, me and dad went to work setting up his new rod. Its a 7 foot rod mathced to a daiwa SOL 2000.

Reel spool diam. is 43mm so x27 puts the choker at 1161mm from reel spool face. that left about 760mm to the tip following the instructions in rodmaker we set his running guides to 125mm apart.

the choker was a size 7 and the rest were 6's out to the tip all TLSG

next to place transition guides, we were using TATSG guides and decided a 25 would suit better which ended up falling right inbetween 20-21inchs from reel spool face. next we set a size 16 290mm away from the stripper against the straigh edge. Finally there was a size 10 a further 200mm from there.

so it was

25 (1380mm from tip) 16 (1090mm) 10 (890mm) TATSG
7 (750mm) 6 (625mm) 6 (500mm) 6 (375mm) 6 (250mm) 6 (125mm) then a size 7 tip

My question is, this appears to be 1 guide to many 7+1 is 8 and we used 9 plus tip. I tried using smaller transition guides to no avail. a smaller stripper sits too far out from the reel.

Does this sound ok to you guys?

Should be fine Tom. Take it to the footy oval and see how it casts.

I would suggest you do a static test and see what happens. Sometimes you get by with fewer guides and sometimes you may have to add one or two. Let the rod tell you what you need. If you don't know what a static test is, click on Library at the top of this page and go down to Static Guide Placement by Tom K. Your 7 could be another 6 instead. I'm about ready to start on a CTS 7 ft spinning rod. The guides that you are using I'll probably start out with but I won't know for sure until I get ti set up. Hope some of this helps.

i just set it up for test casting it casted a approx 4gram lure about 25-30m leader knots passed through exellently with no clanging against guides. I then placed it in a rod holder and pulled down on the line at varying strengths, all transitions are nice and smooth with no great angles.

It looks like i got it right which is nice.

just tweaked it a little i changed the 7 TLSG to an 8

dad would have used a 6 but theres none left :P haha 8 will do just fine and i think itll act as somewhat of a nice smooth transition to the 6's

Using a SOL 2000 with 4lb platypus superbraid and 8lb linesystems leader. used this setup as a sort of half ground. ie pretty thick leader and reasonable mainline

Finally got out on the golf course just then, tried to different weights again 1 a jackall chubby and 2 a jackall TN60

got around 30m with the chubby one handed flick type cast. and around 45m with the TN60

Is this how everybody sets up their NGC? The distances between the 25-16-10-7 seem a bit close to me, I must be doing mine all wrong.

i guess this is just how this particular build fell.

im quite happy with the casting performance of this rod considering its not intended for small bream lures that i was testing with

The choker and running guides should all be the same size. So swap the 7 or 8 for a 6, or vice versa.

Other than that, you appear to have done everything correctly.

Now you can try a few things if you want to. Remove one of the running guides and respace them progressively. Try it that way and see if your distance improves. It might, and it might not. Try it and see. If it does, you can safely drop one of those guides and still have enough there for adequate stress distribution.

On your static test, I think you just need to weight the line to keep it taunt, then load the rod tip with a separate force, to see how well the guide placement keeps the line following the rods arc.
