does anyone know if you need to use CP on metallic thread. I did a buttwrap with silver metalic thread and it didn't soak in and it turned the silver thread dull. Maybe it needed to be thinned out before it is applied?

You don't want to thin color preserver - that makes it mostly water and water simply evaporates and disappears.

Metallics don't need color preserver but some will hold their sheen a bit better if you do use it. Be aware though that after some time in the sun many silver metallics tend to go flat and go somewhat dull anyway.

The only metallic that has fisheye problems for me is the Madeira metallics. Sulky, Gudebrod and all other threads 'made' for rod building don't require it.

I've began using a thin primer coating of Diamondite over the Madeira metallics, now. This solved my fisheye problem; it doesn't do it for some reason? Neat stuff; I've wrapped four rods now with Madeira metallics on the guides and used the Diamondite for this first primer coat and all four were no more fisheyes.

Jim is correct. I've experienced this first hand. It turns transparent with no CP. Nice if you want that effect.

Diamondite seems to be somewhat immune to the ccontaminat/silicon/fisheye problem as it's actually based on an adhesive and is not an epoxy and doesn't seem to be repelled like epoxy is. Great stuff.

I wonder if madeira and the like that fish eye could be cleaned some how of the silicone that casues the problem. doubtful but its a thought.

Ronald, what did you do? What exactly didn't "soak in", finish or CP? If CP, what CP? What finish? And how well did you pack the thread? Even with metallics, you do need to do some packing.
