securing tiny guides

Hi guys,
Just wanted to let you all in on a couple of things that worked well for me in trying to secure the itty bitty "micro guides" I used some 1/16" tape that I got from a local craft/art store. I have also successfully used tape that I got from an auto supply store that was a 16th of an inch that was used for pinstriping..

Hope that you guys find it useful and have a GREAT weekend

I personally hate taping guides on. I have been using small ID latex tubing. I cut bands 1/16" wide and use one to hold the guide on and one on the ring end as an anchor. I have a True Color lampp that has a separate magnifier on a goose neck. I just look through that and go for it - just like tying on a #6 with fingers like Andre the Giant.

I've done two rods with the nano guides. The snow is melting fast here in MN so maybe I can test cast tomorrow. Today (at work) I was casting my wife's 5' 9" walleye jig rod that has little guides plus a 3mm for the tip. I was casting it with a big paperclip and 8# mono. I was quit shocked at how far it cast mono with such a light weight!

I get a kick out of the comments I get when people see them on a rod for the first time. That alone is worth it!

Hey Gunny I hate tape!!! It leaves a residue of stickky junk. Using surgical tubbing. the tubbing allows you to reposition the guides dure stress tests and when it comes to wrapping you wrap up to it and cut it off. Much easier than trying to pull off tape

Steve, LOVED how it came out.. I am working on a new short skipping rod that I am going to be fishing on the local river in NC.... Making it out of a 5'6" SC3 blank that I am cutting 3 inches off of the butt..... I think that it is going to come out REALLY nice... will finally be able to retire my old t-2401-m- 5-3 that I believe I bought back in 1986!!!! I think that I will redo it and make into a display piece or maybe even donate it back to Croix as I know there were looking for some of these older sticks at one time..

I have found that the pinstriping tape works the best as it is almost a vinyl tape(somewhat similar to electrical tape).. I have used it for the last 4 years withough ANY residue EVER... although I will say that once the guides get taped on to their final resting place the are wrapped immediately following. I have some of the small bands, I have just not tried them as of yet.

Chuck, I talked with my Dad yesterday who lives in Chisago City and he is bugging me about the new spinnerbait rod that I have in the works for him.... says it almost reached 61 yesterday and the snow was dissapearing FAST.... although there is still ice on almost every lake up there.

have a great one gents
Tom

Guide tubing from Mudhole (in 3 sizes) works very well.

Tom - they are still driving pickup trucks on lakes here. Almost 3 feet of ice.
