I now use an american tackle dryer for epoxy aplication. It seems to do ok, but I am curious what others use and why. I remember seeing a dryer at the Highpoint that turned at 200 rpm... seems awful fast, but I don't know.
Thanks as always Tom Church Re: RPM for best epoxy application

I have a pacbay dryer modified with a seperate motor and a belt. I pop the belt and turn it by hand for ultimate control. I have found on butt wraps having the rod turning and trying to put on finish is the worst thing. Since it should be spread on length wise, I got used to turning it by hand and ended up putting on all my finish this way now. This method works really well in conjunction with a good hand rest. I made one from block of wood. Think I would put my finish edges up against anyones.
Look at the picture and you can be the judge. [i208.photobucket.com] Re: RPM for best epoxy application

Henry, Do you use a spatula or a brush to get those perfect edges. If you use a brush what kind do you use? Thank you and have a great day, Rich. Re: RPM for best epoxy application

I use both but that rod was done with a brush. I buy these 12 for a dollar brushes from five and dime store. They are similar to the ones flex coat makes. Re: RPM for best epoxy application

I use the Flex Coat 200 RPM motor setup for applying the finish to the rod. For me I seem to get the epoxy on the rod quicker and get a much neater edge of the epoxy to the blank. Then the rod goes into a 4-6 RPM dryer. When I use to use just the dryer for applying epoxy, I did not get a very clean edge, hand was not steady enough. WIth 200 RPM it is real quick to get a nice clean straight edge to the epoxy. Re: RPM for best epoxy application

Thanks for the comments guys. I really liked that Flex Coat setup that I saw at the show. May have to save my pennies.
