To use or not to use, that is the question? This concerns replacement of broken quides on bass rods. Crankin Stiks, Flippen Stiks, and various types of bass casting rods, mainly graphite of different ages and quality (mass produced rods).

It is all a preference of what you want the final look of the rod to be. If you want the colors to be as they are when wrapping the rod, use CP. If you don't mind the colors turning darker, then don't use CP. I do mostly bass rods and I have not had a problem with guides whether I used CP or not. IF applied correctly you should have no problems using CP.

Use it. Or put another way, why not? Is it something new in the BASS world that says don't use it?

Base whether or not to use it on how you need to match the original thread. With one spool of thread, you can get at least two different shades either by using, or not using CP. With the same color in NCP, you add a third option which generally allows you to match about any color/shade on any rod out there.

It seems that the CP generally darkens the thread. Would say that is the case most or all of the time?

On top of a dark background you'll lose a shade. Otherwise it shouldn't change by very much.
