I'm curious as to the wrapping of the ferrules of a 4 piece, 5 weight fly rod. I've seen wrapping of just a 1/2" or so and other wraps that go about 2". Is there an advantage to one or the other.
thank you, John Re: wrap on ferrule end

You only need 1 to 1 1/2 times the diameter of the female ferrule to keep the ferrule from splitting. Longer wraps olny add weight. If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: wrap on ferrule end

Or they can add "pretty" to the rod. It's a matter of a minimalist approach or an artistic one, in which case, make it so you want to look at it every time you fish.
There's no "correct" way for this one. There's only your way. Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Re: wrap on ferrule end

Russ, I totally agree with you. I like the minimalist approach with a 3 to 5 wrap nailknot style trim wrap or two, or not. If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
