ATC Surf Blanks - good for Jigmaster?

Hey guys,

I'm sure you saw the post from FishSticks4U about the ATC Surf blanks that they have on closeout pricing (50% off list from what I can tell).

They are
# XO-AXSU100M-2, 2-pc / 10' / 7.0 tip / 0.608 butt / 15-30 lb / 1-4 oz / Med power / Med-Fast Action
-AND-
# XO-AXSU100H-2, 2-pc / 10' / 8.0 tip / 0.728 butt / 20-40 lb / 2-6 oz / Heavy power / Med-Fast Action

Anyhow, I recently purchased a nice Accurate converted Jigmaster with Newell 5:1 gears for my Wife. I want to put her on a few 5' class sharks, bull redfish, etc.

Which of these ATC blanks would you recommend, if either? Are they overkill for the Jigmaster? Underkill for the 5' sharks?

I'll likely be slinging 4-6oz of weight and a chunk of bait...but not 'power casting' by any means. I will also use it to kayak the bait out from time to time, and this is where i want to make sure the blank can withstand a 5-6' shark.

Any opinions?

Has anyone else used either of these blanks for anything? How is the quality and finish?

Thanks,
Shawn

I don't know the blanks but DO know Jigmasters. Either one looks on paper like it will do the job. I would lean to the heavier rod for sharks of that size. I use an 11' rod from a different manufacturer with that weight rating and a Magged Jigmaster with 30# mono for leopard sharks and bat rays that often go well over 100#.

Believe me....those bat rays PULL

If you are targeting 5' sharks, I would look towards the heavier model. It will definitely be able to handle 4-6oz, and it will give you a little more pulling power against those hard fighting sharks and bull reds. I have caught 3' sharks that i thought would strip me on lighter gear, so a 5' must be a blast!
