choosing the right guide

Hi all,
This is my first post.I have built a few rods for my own use back in the day(25 yrs.ago)not works of art like some of the rods I have seen in your photo gallery, but very functional fishing tools none the less and have served me well over the years. Its been a long time since I have built a rod,and should be considerd a rookie at best.I am going to put a MH spinning rod together for my fishing buddy.I was checking out fuji sic concept guides(YSG models) and noticed that there were two size 8's aYSG-8J and a size YSG-8JL whats the difference?
Another question i have is Dale Clemens custom tackle still in buisness? I used to get all my supplies from them but cant find anything on the web about them.I liked their crystal coat finish you could put it in the freezer over night ,take it out let it warm up and put on another coat. Can this be done with other finishes?

you have got caught right in the middle of something else going on. Clemens I don't believe is still in buss., as far as the guides go I don't know, but just email one of the fuji dealers on the left or go to their web site and ask them, they will be more than glad to help you.

The 8LJ is a little lower framed than the 8J, actually more like a V frame guide. The 8J is taller, and is the regular Y frame.

The J after the size indicates that it is a concept guide. A concept fly type guide (BLAG) also has a J after the size number

The "L" guide is what I call a transition guide. As Ted stated, the 8L is a bit lower than the standard 8, in the concept guides. I like to use the 8L when stepping down from the YSG to the LSG guides.

Dale Clemens is no longer in business, and the product you mentioned isn't made anymore as-such. However, all of the sponsors to the left are great folks, indeed, and there are several super finishing products available.

The quickest-to-dry finishing product that I know of is Diamondite, but I might be wrong, there could be something else too.
