Madeira Thread

Just sharing may experience and stupidity all in one post. I've used Maderia thread with out any problems except now. Instead of putting two coats of CP on a guide like I usually do I only put one coat. Then I put the epoxy finish on it and it fish-eyed on me. So now when the finish dries I'll take it apart and start over. At least two coats of CP from now on. I posted this just in case somebody is going to use Madeira thread for the first time and didn't want to go through the experience I just did.

One coat should be fine, if you apply enough of it. I dont use it on guides, only for Dec Wraps and underwraps. THEre are people who appy no CP at all and do not have fisheyes. Gotta love confusing thread.

My experience as well. Also happens with Sulky.

I just use metallics; never had a problem with Sulky threads repelling finish and don't use CP on guide wraps, either. On the Madeira metallics, I've gone to one thin coat of Diamondite before putting the 2nd coat of epoxy on. It hasn't repelled the Diamondite for 3 rods now...

We never had Madira throw fisheyes at us, but it does go opaque. My understanding is that Andy Dear's new CP solves the problem. We'll know shortly - - -

You might want to give Diamondite a try, not being an epoxy, it doesn't seem to have problems with repelling like the epoxies due!

If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!!
