Weaves on Composite Grips

I know I always wish that I could do a nice weave on my rod but because I make smaller diameter rods, I am limited in what I can do. An idea I had was this............After making a new composite grip, sand it to shape, and then sand a desired length of area down (~1/16-1/8" in depth). When you shrink tube the carbon sleeve, it would obviously conform across the entire grip. The sanded area would be slightly recessed so as to apply thread or do a weave and be flush to the rest of the grip.
Make sense? Has anyone thought or tried this yet? Re: Weaves on Composite Grips

You could certainly do just that. Let your imagination go.

you can also use the reel seat on spinning rods for a weave. stan Re: Weaves on Composite Grips

Or do the weave on a fat blank peice or 3/4" pvc (the OD is about an inch),add finish to the weave, cut to size, and then flank it with the composite material. NERB that types with a bar of Ivory soap in his mouth. Re: Weaves on Composite Grips

i think it is very viable to do this with composite grips. we have just begun with this material and the possibilities are endless. how about weaves, thread art, painting, tinting, decals, etc? i think all are possible and many more possiblilities i haven't thought of yet, but i am sure others have the same thoughts. we just have to experiment to see what can be done and how to get the best results. don't sit back and wait for someone else to try it . go for it. i like mike joyce's idea. you will be making a weave inlay and will still show the fiber around it. i would play with something similar in size and thickness before using a weave, this will allow you to make sure how best to go about it without wasting a time consuming weave. good luck Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
