50 more books

Over the past few months, I've been acquiring 50 more books (and funds) to add to the RodMaker Magazine Public Library Program. This month, I'll begin mailing them to the most recent list of requested public and high school libraries across the U.S. If you sent a request earlier, you may find your local library to be on the list now being prepared for this upcoming mailing.

This mailing will bring our tally for donated books to nearly 400. The books to be mailed this month will again be the excellent Boyd Pfeiffer text, The Complete Book of Tackle Making. It contains several excellent chapers on all facets of custom rod building, including chapters on general tackle making.

The RodMaker Magazine Public Library Program is the only large scale program ensuring the future of the custom rod building craft by offering free instructional rod building information to anyone interested. You can learn more about the program here: [home.earthlink.net]

.....hmmm "Global Rod Project II"?....its great to see that theres an increased list of individuals that have voluntarily contributed to the fund. I wish there was a rodbuilding book in my high school library "back in the day". Could've made a world of difference.

Just a quick comment,
After receiving a few books on rod building my local library coordinator was very impressed with the RodMaker Magazine Public Library Program.
Great job Tom

Almost none of the sponsors and manufacuters and retailers of rod building stuff are on the contributors list. Do they not know that there future is tied to the success of programs like this??

Sometimes it does seem as if the manufacturers and retailers in this business are oblivious to their own futures. However, I think the major reason you don't see them as contributors to this program is that most of them are just plain busy - they get so tied up in their day to day business that this sort of thing just doesn't cross their mind. That's all. I seriously doubt it's an intended slight. They just get busy and these sort of low key programs aren't on their radar screens.

There are a few retailers that have contributed small amounts in the early days of the program and several concerned individuals have done the same, at least two fairly recently.

The majority of the books purchased come from funds provided by RodMaker Magazine. In fact, every dollar from back issue sales at this year's ICRBE went directly to this program and in fact, purchased all 50 of the books being prepared for mailing.

We do what we can with the available funds.

Hi,

A commendable program!

In defence of the manufacturers, I have found them very receptive to calls for help. They have helped me raise funds for people in need every time I made a request. I also know that they offer rod building kits and/or supplies to programs that teach youngsters how to build a rod. Sometimes they donate and other times they sell at a very reduced price. However they do not promote themselves by publicising this.

Thank you Batson Enterprises, Lamiglas and Pac Bay.

Capt Neil Faulkner
