Flocking Material Question

Ive got a shade/material card for flock. On the card is .5mm, .75mm, 1mm and 2mm in rayon and nylon. Each size of flock has a dtex rating beside it? A 0.7mm1.7 dtex seems to be softer than a 0.5 3.3 dtex What size flock is optimum for a grip?

Any help would be appreciated.

Many sizes will work but .040 in nylon would be your best bet for the overall look and feel. If you're sourcing this from Donjer ask for that size - they'll know what you want.

Just sharing something that was shared with me, so take it for what it's worth. I'm not maketing for them or anything like that. But, Mark Griffin and I were taking about flocking material at High Point. He shared with me that he saw that WoodCraft was carrying it at an awesome price about half of anyone else. I checked their website, and saw that what they are carrying the Rayon fibers, if that makes any differance. Tom maybe you could comment further on this better than I can. I'm looking to flock some foam Pistol grips that Scott Parsons is working on.

I have found a source here in the UK for flock in 240 colours. I have been told that 1 kg of flock will do approx 80 to 100 grips. Im using a battery powered electrostatic flocking machine. After more research I agree with Tom that nylon is the way to go for outdoor use. Im just wondering what denier to use as it comes in several for each size of flock. I was just curious what others have used on there grips.

The smaller the better. The larger stuff tends to look like a shag carpet, or the fuzzy clothing from the 1970's. All you need is a very short fiber coating.

Bill,

The rayon flock is NOT suitable for outdoor use. It won't hold up very long. You need Nylon for any outdoor use (rods, decoys, etc)

If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!!
