The article in RM magazine was for spinning reel guide locations and has worked great. I'm wondering if there is a formula that does the same thing only for a bait casting set up and would it work the same on a spiral wrap?
Just a thought because of how much the article simplified guide placement and static testing and I'm basically lazy. Darby Nelson Re: Casting vs Spinning Guide Placement

You're not up against the same problems with casting rod guide set up so no such formula is needed. Spinning reels operate differently than casting or fly reels and thus have somewhat unique criteria involved.
We did run an article on casting rod guide sizing, number and set up in the same series as the one on the spinning New Guide Concept Series. These articles are all in the "Beginner's Corner" spread out over Volumes 9 and 10. .................. Re: Casting vs Spinning Guide Placement

Darby,
Guide placement formulas and charts are just guides and will get you started, but you should always do a static test Re: Casting vs Spinning Guide Placement

Thanks, Dave, for saying what I was gonna say, but with a lot less words.

Russ,
If you're going to take the time to build one, You might as well take ten minutees and do the test. After all is is a custom build. Like using an un-cushioned reel seat on a custom build. Just shouldn't be done even though you can. Dave Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
