How long do you wait to use your rod after you have applied the finish to the wraps? Re: How long do you wait?

Most finishes ... 5 days. Aftcote and TM Lite ... 7 days. Diamondite and Permagloss ... 2 days.
Better safe than sorry. You can always "bake" it to accelerate the complete curing. Remember that dry to the touch is NOT fully cured. Re: How long do you wait?

Hi Justin,
Flex Coat = 2 days. Aftcote = 7 days. This is the old version of Aftcote. The new version which I do not have yet is 2 days I am told. Capt Neil Faulkner Re: How long do you wait?

I have used Threadmaster on my fly rods and have test casted them after two days without a problem. I do live in a warm climate and the rods that I have built were during the summer so that might make a difference. With Flex Coat I have waited a couple of days and never had a problem either. You might think about trying Swifty Diamondite. It's based on an adhesive instead of amine so it cures a lot quicker, and quicker yet if you put it under a 100 watt light bulb. Go to the link on the left to see the particulars. Bill in WV Re: How long do you wait?

Classic Coat, I try and wait at least 2 days here in Florida, 3 or 4 if we got a cool front.
I have fished a rod less than a day after finishing it (92degree heat outside) and finish went on out there, but would not recommend it to anyone. Re: How long do you wait?

I agree I would wait 38 hourd before using or a little longer if the finish feels soft. I always try and have my room temp. about 80%

24-48hrs with almost any of the amine-based stuff, in a temp-controlled room at not less than 70deg. Diamondite (Swifty) is a lot faster.
