Pushing Cork Rings Out of the Slicing Jig

So, I bought one of those simpler cork slicing jigs that were on the table over at Custom Tackle (silver, for cutting across only, not making pie pieces). Just curious to see what implement people are using to push the rings out of the jig.

There is a recess under where the cork ring sits. I have been using a bolt, putting the threaded part through the hole in the jig, allowing the head to sit in the recess. I push the bolt back through the other way with the head pushing the cork ring out.

This works well, but I'd like to find something with a larger "head" or surface area and even more flat. Like a giant nail head. Know what I mean?

If its the same jig I think you are talking about, a dime fits pretty well in the recess. Then just poke the nail your using thru the center hole to push the dime up along with the ring. Hope this helps

Find a fender washer the right size and tighten down on a small bolt grind off any excess bolt head your good to go.

Tony, Thanks for posting that question. I was pondering ideas myself. Two good ones so far.

Definately use a coin to fit in the recess I think I used a penny or even a nickle. But that is the way togo. Scott

Tony, those jigs were designed to fit a nickel in that bottom well. When you're done cutting, use anything like a nail, or a small screwdriver, or even one of the disposable brushes used for applying finish to push the rings out. If you desire even thinner rings, put the nickel in, place a large washer in the well on top of the nickel, and put the cork ring in. The slices get even thinner. Remove them the same way.

In case anyone was interested...a "connector bolt" has a larger diameter head that is very thin and can sit in the recess of the slicing jig. It is typically used for assembling furniture like that you find at IKEA. I like it because it is one piece.
