I'm really stuck

And it's no joke, I picked up a repair yesterday it's a 13' 2 pc surf rod. New, never used, stuck together like you wouldn't believe.
Here's what I've tried so far. Cold, Heat, Heat then Cold, denatured alcohol, made a ferrule tool with EVA and rug gripper, every 2 sets of strong hands I can find, unwrapped the ferrule wrap thinking maybe it was wrapped to tight and distorted the blank. I'm running out of things I can think of and looked through previous discussions but I'm stumped. From what I was told the rod was new and as soon as it was put together it locked. I guess the owner could always pursue a warranty replacement, but shipping a 13' rod will be extreme. I'd appreciate any advice. Walt Davenport "Roadhouse Rods" Re: I'm really stuck

Try vibrating with a orbital sander and pulling\turning the sections at the same time. Or tapping it at the joint to add a shocking jolt to release it at the same time twisting and pulling. Re: I'm really stuck

I would try penatrating oil like Liquid Wrench. I would not use WD-40, it doesn't penatrate well.

you might also try and use two small strap wrenches like they sell at Sears.. they work pretty good at getting stuff like that apart. You will just need to make sure that you get it close to one another so as not to create so much torsional force that you shear the blank. Re: I'm really stuck

Are we talking about an integral graphite ferrule?
Put a bag of ice around the ferrule and leave it for 20 minutes. Then try again. ................... Re: I'm really stuck

Hi Walt,
I would contact the company that made the rod. See what they suggest or offer. My experiences with rod companies has been very good. If they ask you to return the rod they will probably allow you to cut it into 3 pieces. Good fortune. Capt Neil Faulkner Re: I'm really stuck

You say you "picked it up". I do pickups from local sporting goods stores, too. I have had MANY similar situations. Guess what I found out ... it was GLUED on purpose by the owner. Might want to do some checking first. Re: I'm really stuck

If it is an integral graphite feerule as Tom asked, you need to shrink the male part and expand the female part. Wrap a bag of ice on the male end just below where they join and leave it for a while to get good and cold. Now pull and twist while applying heat to the female part of the farrule. I'd use steam from a kettle to prevent over heating the blank. Repeat as necessary. Eventually thr thermal shock will loosen it up. Re: I'm really stuck

Hey Walt i know this sounds really stupid but it has worked for me. I put a needle that you air up balls with in the butt cap and had a buddy pump air into the blank while i pulled it out. The only reason this worked was due to the rubber peice on the top joint it allowed it to push the top off. But also Rednecks do some weird stuff too (LOL) Edited 1 time(s). When I was a kid some of my rods would stick together. To take them apart I would put the rod behind my knees, with the joint between my knees, with my knees close together. Grab the rod on the outside of my knees( knees pushing on my hands ) and push my knees apart. With a loud pop the always came apart. Re: I'm really stuck

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll be back in the shop tomorrow and give a couple of these a try. I've already attempted the bag-o-ice method with no results.
Yes this is an integral graphite ferrule. Capt Neil, I have verified that the rod wasn't glued together, that was a good thought. Regards Walt Davenport "Roadhouse Rods" Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
