I was applying a rather large wtaer slide decal to a surf rod and something went wrong.
I am assuming I didn't wait long enough for the first layer of finish to cure, because the water that came into contact with the finish left the finish cloudy and when it dried there were some really ugly water marks that I could not rub out. At this point I don't know if I can clean it up and apply the final finish coat, or if I need to start over. Any suggestions ? Re: trouble with waterslide decal

Do you have any Micro Sol. If so take a soft bristle brush and apply one brush stroke of the product over the top an let dry. You may have released some of the adhesive from the decal film and that could be what you are seeing. If it is it will go away after a couple of applications. Re: trouble with waterslide decal

If it's not that, you might have to sand the decal off and level the finish and then get another decal and start again. Re: trouble with waterslide decal

No micro sol, I'll try to clean it up, if that doesn;t work I'll start over. What's the recommended sanding medium if I go that route ? Re: trouble with waterslide decal

Next time also use distilled water to soak the decal in, will not leave a mineral deposits, etc. Re: trouble with waterslide decal

You guys using Micro sol and micro set....I have applied tons of the decals without the use of these with perfect results. I know I'm not that good yet, so how does this stuff make the application any better? Just trying to undrstand gents..

Paul, I have done tons of them without it, too, and most all with perfect results. But not all... it's just a little bit of insurance that the odds are more stacked in my favor for a perfect one every time.
The micro set before placing the decal really aids in it not sticking so that I can move it around. I'm pretty light and nimble fingered, but sometimes, I push a bit hard and it likes to stick (and I need to MOVE IT JUST A TAD). This stuff really helps out in this situation. The micro sol afterwards helps with any little fuss-budge-it spot that wasn't down all the way or something like that. It gets the decal to lay right for me. Again, it's darned cheap insurance that things go right ALL the time for me. As long as the bottles aren't spilled, they last for years and years of thousands of decal applications. I mean it when I said "cheap" insurance. Putter Williston, ND Re: trouble with waterslide decal
