I'm looking for some 8' calstar 130 blanks to wrap. I know these blanks were manufactured over 20 yrs. ago, then discontinued, so I'm guessing anything available will be scarce. I'm willing to pay extra for these blanks, within reason. Anyone with any information regarding this , would be greatly appreciated. thanks Re: 8' CALSTAR 130 BLANK

You could call Mr. Leon Todd of Calstar (Sabre) he is a living person and will answer the phone and talk to you!
Perhaps he could suggest something that is equal to current production. I had a similar problem trying to duplicate a sturgeon rod that was wrapped on an early Sabre blank. Back in the day, they were strong medicine for stripers and sturgeon. Also, do a bit of research on Sabre blanks and their history (avoid the dark times of Penn ownership, they ruined Sabre) It is an interesting lineage. Also, If I'm not mistaken Seeker made blanks that were parallel to the early Sabres which then became Calstar. Re: 8' CALSTAR 130 BLANK

Ted,
Have you thought about extending the butts on 130-7's which ARE still available? Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Re: 8' CALSTAR 130 BLANK

Mark........No, I hadn't considered that prospect, fact is I've never cut down a blank, or, tried to lengthen one. It seems as though it might be problematic in this case, since there is a good deal of pressure exerted on the butt, when casting. This rod is intended to be used for surf-fishing, and the method I use involves continuous casting. I'm thinking that if I'm unable to locate this blank, I may have to get into the bass fishing blanks to find a close 2nd choice. At the same time however, I'm open to suggestions................so my next question ,is where could I get some information on the process you've suggested. Thanks for your response..... Add a uni-butt and you've got at least a 8' rod. Regards......Doug@ TCRds Re: 8' CALSTAR 130 BLANK

Ted,
Use the search feature above and search "extending a blank". Ran that search myself and saw this from Tom ... "RodMaker Volume 6 #3 has a complete article on extending rod blanks with all the specifics involved." You can order that here --> [rodmakermagazine.com] Another option is a ferruled reel seat. Fuji discontinued them, but we still have some as I'm sure some of the other sponsors do. Check out the DPSLBD20 about 1/3 of the way down this page on the left --> [] Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
