single foots on vintage glass?

I picked up a old Herters 9' fly rod for a song and decied to rebuild/pimp it to be my new carp fly rod.
I clean up all the scratches and had my friend at the body shop clear coat it. added a fighting butt and did a little diamond wrap to dress it up. Now I was just about to wrap on some snakes when I thought about single foot Alconites.
The question is go with snakes and keep it vintage or go single foots and have a better rod.

The board majority will win.

Sinse you have already ruined the astetics value. I would go with the best performance. But I 'd don't build fly rods either.

I would go with the single foots (feet). Like a car restoration, if you want it back to original that's how you need to think when restoring it. However, if you have already changed the paint and other features, why would you put on the old original rims?

Gary,

It's a fishing rod.

It has no 'value' as far as history, antiquity, or tradition goes. They made/sold thousands of them.

It will perform better with the newer guides. Fix it up the way you want it.

Won't matter to the fish either way.

Buddy

Go with the single foot guides, just like restoring an old car you might want to keep the old rims but add some extra chrome goodies to spruce it up it won't make a lot of difference if done in good taste, besides you will probably do better with single foot guides when figting a BIG CARP !!! Single foots. If you put the snakes on it you will end up cutting them off and putting the single foots on after you try to fish it a couple of times.

Is there any chance the carp will care? If not, throw caution to the winds!
