Question for the fiberglass builders here, I'll be starting on a 7' flyrod blank soon and I'll need to find glass spigot material, the blank doesn't have ferrules yet. Can anyone offer any ideas or thoughts on finding a source for this material? Someone prior to this mentioned I could turn an acrylic blank to fit but I'd like to avoid the extra time involved with this if I can? Thought about all glass ice rod blanks but I am pretty sure they'd be too small.
Thanks, Tim Re: white glass spigot ferrule sources?

You might look at local flea markets and find some old solid glass rods. You could possibly cut a section out of one of those to use. They seem to be easy to come by, cheap and very sturdy. Re: white glass spigot ferrule sources?

If I recall right, when we ferruled fiberglas rod we used a piece of old solid fiberglass rod as a spigot. Get the correct taper to match your rod blank and push it through your blank leaving about 1-2 inches inside, then glue it in place. Fit the next piece of blank over it and trim so you have 1-2 inches inside it. You should have the tip end of the spigot a little on the tight side for a fit. You can sand this till the tip fits tight. Do not fit the tip all the way against the bottom, leave a small gap in between to allow for wear over time. Hope this is clear. Todd, I'll send you an e-mail.
I am going to build a 7 ft flyrod from a SR2000 Cortland spin blank. The blank is tip over butt ferruled but I plan to cut the blank to match the Cortland FR2000 taper, may work and it might not...just depends upon the blanks measurements and I haven't received the blank yet. Once I receive it I'll know more. Thanks, Tim Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
