If a rod is built on an import blank, yet is built in the US, can it be claimed Made in USA? All the major made in USA rods use all import components, except the blank.
Also, according to the FET tax law, once you assemble a rod from components you have purchased and paid FET on, you still have to pay FET on that rod when it is sold because you have made a new product. Would this imply that the rod is Made in USA? Any thoughts much appreciated, Marc Re: Claiming Made in USA

Technically it is supposed to be something like 90% of the cost to be able to claim made in the usa. So short of some fly rods and SW rods with rollers there aren't going to be many others. Although it could be more easily acheived using tube handle's and no reel seat.

"Assembled in the USA" is probably a more accurate statement in many of these cases and some companies are now using such a thing.

There are some imported products that are REALLY cutting it close ... I saw the following on a 100% Chinese factory rod last week:
"Designed in the USA" - along with a fluttering US flag depiction It made me so mad I could spit, especially when a fellow walked in and picked it up and proudly declared to his buddy that it WAS a US made rod. Re: Claiming Made in USA

I saw some cheap rods (not bad quality) at a major fishing show recently with a "designed by Daiwa" sticker Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
