I wanted to do a test on a Tiger Wrap. There were a few questions that have come up regarding the use of Diamondite with this process. I wanted to find out how fast I could complete it and if there were any problems using Diamondite Rod Finish. I was told that it wouldn’t be a good finish to use for the Tiger Wrap process. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I could complete a 3†wrap from start to finish in 5 hours in my 45° warehouse using a single 100 watt bulb. Here is what I did.
1. Place side by side wrap of highly contrasting Madeira thread on blank. 2. Burnish the threads. 3. Place a heavy coat of Diamondite CP on thread. Allow to soak in and wipe off excess with clean cloth. Allow to dry under the light for 10 minutes. 4. Mix 1.5 ccs of Diamondite Rod Finish and apply a thin coat to Wrap. Level using hot air gun. Allow to cure for 1 hour under the light until hard. 5. Sand with 600 grit sand paper to unsure smoothness and wipe with acetone to remove dust. 6. Mix 1.5 ccs of Diamondite Rod Finish and apply a medium coat to Wrap. Level using hot air gun. Allow to cure for 1 hour under the light until hard. 7. Apply next side by side thread layer securing each end from opposite direction 8. Burnish the threads. 9. Place a heavy coat of Diamondite CP on thread. Allow to soak in and wipe off excess with clean cloth. Allow to dry under light for 10 minutes. 10. Pull spacer thread from second layer allowing the CP to hold the top thread in place. 11. Mix 1.5 ccs of Diamondite Rod Finish and apply a medium coat to Wrap. Level using hot air gun. Allow to cure for 1 hour under the light until hard. I was happy with the results. If I was using a drying box, I am sure it could even be faster. Here is a picture of the results. [www.rodbuilding.org] A couple of questions I answered for myself. Diamondite is not too hard for use under the top wrap. The clarity makes the holographic effect jump off the rod. Tiger Wraps do not need to be a multi-day project. I do have the skill to do a Tiger Wrap. Tim Campbell Swifty Manufacturing (626) 963-1142 Re: 5 Hour Tiger Wrap Test
