I put a plastic winding check on my current project and don't like it, but already put the guides on - can I paint some Sally Hansen fingernail polish on the first layer of finish, over the winding check, and then put another layer on and have it stick? Re: sally hansen

Try it on a scape first. Fingernail polish is tough stuff. Not that I would be an expert on the polish or a user.............................................. Re: sally hansen

Let me suggest that you try a hobby store for a small bottle of Testor's Pactra paint in the color you want. Do NOT get the acrylic - it's not made for use with finishes, or even water. Let it dry for a minimum of 6hrs after application.
The finish with your epoxy - no CP needed. Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Re: sally hansen

Or you could also just build up an epoxy ramp with 5 min. epoxy, thread wrap and epoxy over that. Re: sally hansen

Hi Sally May I suggest you get hold of Rand Parpart (Putter) putter@dia.net Randy does cool work with marbilizing. You could build a thread ramp of vairous colors.

i have used sally hansen "hard as nails" clear as head cement on flies and it works great. it can get very hard, but i have never used it on a rod. if your using it as a topcoat(so to speak)) it may work great. give it a try and let us know. of course you can marbelize or build a ramp with dyed rodbond. good luck

Sally Hansen 'hard as nails is IMO the best head cement out there. BUT, it thins with acetone and I don't want acetone on/near my rods/blanks. If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: sally hansen

I have also used Sally on my flys for years and I'm not sure if it is from salt water or the sun but my built up streamer heads turn very yellow after a while. I'd hate to see that happen on a beutiful built rod! Just my opinion.

Karen,
I've used SH on painted jigheads and sometimes water gets in under it and turns it milky. The fish still eat the jigs, though! Not sure about using it on wraps. Good luck! Les Re: sally hansen

I put S.H. on lead wire, fly weight, and for head cement (clear) and for loops on the ends of fly line (red). Again, it thins with acetone which I Do Not want on any rod or blank, IMO. For rodbuilding I use 91% clear rubbing alcohol because denatured alcohol has impurities which can be M.E.K. or similar. If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again.
