I have a couple of questions on the renzetti lazer guide set up, I see mudhole is now carrying it.
First question- does this thing work with any rod lathe or just the renzetti, and for those that have used it, what are your thoughts, ie worth it, not worth it, etc. Thanks much, Mark Re: renzetti lazer guide

Hi Mark,
Save your money. I have had problems with it since the day I got it. The only way to keep the batteries from going dead is to remove them from the lazer. Hank On The Rocks Fishing Wells, ME. Re: renzetti lazer guide

Odd, mine is many years old and the batteries are still going strong, although I really don't use it much. I'm afraid the old eyeball alignment method still works out the easiest and best in the long run.

We use a laser on our PacBay rod lathe, to get the center of the chuck lined up just-so with the center of the roller guides. This allows for the "slop" in the fit of the roller guides within the lathe base sections. We also make sure the rod itself is level from the chuck to the tip, allowing for the taper, and again, this can be quickly done by using a laser.
We don't use the laser for wrapping patterns. Instead, we mark use the laser to establish TDC (or BDC, or 90degDC) on the blank. Actually, if we Mark TDC and it's to be a pattern based on the 90deg or 180deg axis, we'll use one of those "circle" templates you can get almost anywhere, that has the different radians marked round the circle, to mark the other axis. For other axis, we use the same tool, but might laser both opposite axis (i.e., TDC and 180deg). I know this sounds like a lot of trouble but we got in the habit of using lasers from marking the spine and now it just seems quicker (and more accurate) than any other way. This is 'cause, as far as I know, there's no laser unit for the PacBay lathe. There is an indexing capability on the chuck, though. Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Re: renzetti lazer guide

This is what I use to locate TDC, BDC or what degree you need. Locks into reel seat so no theres no mistake.
[img.photobucket.com] As far as the laser goes I'm not the only on that had the same problems. About the same time as I purchased my Renzetti lathe a couple of other people posted on this site stating the same problems. I tried to return it to Renzetti but lets just say it was not welcomed. Now after saying that I have to say the Renzetti makes the best rod lathe going. I have most all their add ons for the lathe and they all work great except for the lazer. Thanks for the input. Guess I'll hold off for now- any chance there will be one of these (lazer alignment)set up at the rod show to see demonstrated ? Re: renzetti lazer guide

Hi Mark,
I maybe wrong but I think Renzetti will be at the show. If not contact Mudhole and ask them to bring onr to the show. You may look at it and like it. Hank On The Rocks Fishing Wells, ME. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
