Experimenting with a rod and need some advice

Hello all,
I would like to try an experiment but am looking for some feedback before I start. I would like to build a light or medium light action float rod but set it up as a spiral wrap baitcasting rod. I was thinking about using either a 9'6-10"" fast action flyrod blank or a 10'6" steelhead blank. Here are my concerns:
1) Which blank do you think would work best, a fast action or a medium fast action blank since I will be essentially pitching the rigs rather than casting in the traditional sense
2) Is this just a bad idea?
I have used spinning reels and float reels before for steelhead but have never tried to build a spiral wrap baitcaster. For a while I was using a 11'6" GL3 built as a baitcaster but was looking for something lighter and less clumsy.
Any advice and opinions would be welcome,
thanks,
Tom.

Tom,
I prefer a fast action blank for this application. My favorite Float rod for steelhead ( Largere Natives) is the XST1264F-TC the specs are as follows10'6" 2 pc, 10-17 lb test, 3/8 - 1 oz lure wts, fast action, medium power, 3.36 oz blank wt. You might want to go lighter depending on your application. I am sure there is someone out there on this board that has Spiral wrapped a simular Rainshadow blank. If you go to the Batson Enterprises - Rainshadow/Forecast/ALPS website and click on Rainshadow Blank then Salmon Rod Blanks you will have alot of blanks too choose from. That is where you can make your determination on regards to all the particular spec for you desired application. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
Thank you
