Recently purchase handle 14"kit & now want to shorten the handle. What method would you use to cut. I concerned about splitting, etc. Should I use my Dremel with a cut off wheel? Maybe use tape to cover blank where I plan to cut to keep splitting or cracking from becoming a problem. Re: Ameican Tackle Co Vetre Matrix Handle

Exactly how I do it. Except with a cut off saw to keep my edges straight
After taping I would put a pencil mark all the way around the tubing to keep you on track. It is a little easy to get off using a Dremel. Re: Ameican Tackle Co Vetre Matrix Handle

Hi Mike,
If you haven't already cut the handle, the dremel is the ideal way to cut these parts, other saws will work and some guys have told me they use a fine blade hack-saw pulling the teeth away from the cut but I only use a dremel. Tape is a must to help keep chips and splinters from damaging the finish. Use tape across the cut and another piece on top to create the guide for a straight edge (remember to use your eye protection). The bottom tape should protect both pieces so you can save the smaller piece for another project. I splice these small pieces into other grips for unique looks and to add color. I always save the bits and scraps for future projects, in fact they are often the inspiration for new rods (most of the time, they are rods I don't need but,,,,,). Good Luck, thank you for choosing an American Tackle part for this project. Darrin Heim American Tackle Company Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
