FlexCoat HiBuild problem

I have built rods for over 15 years now and ran across something this morning that has me really puzzed beyond belief!! Completed a 6 1/2 foot live bait rod using a seeker blank, Pac Bay guides and had put on the guides and the first coat of flex coat when my customer wanted some gold trim rings on the purple thread. Since I had already put the first coat of the flex coat on I added the gold metallic thread applied a thin coat of color pereserver and let it dry overnight. This morning I tried to apply a thin coat of flex over the metallic god thread and what a mess. The flex coat had hundreds of small fish eyes. It was as if the static electricity in the hardened flex coat was charged and repelled the flex coat. I have in the past had a occasional slip up with a fish eye because of containination but even after I removed the wet flex coat and clean with alcohol to eliminate what I thought would be a contaimination issue the repeated effort provide the exact same results. I have built hundreds of rods but this one takes the cake. I would appreciate any help. And yes I tried another guide with the same results. Perplex in Tallahassee!!

Just throwing out ideas; maybe the CP brush was contaminated with something? I've never had good results with Flex coat when there's been any alcohol involved. I usually just wait for my wraps to dry, scuff with grey scotch brite, wipe with distilled water on a coffee filter and let that dry and recoat; works like a champ for me.

Please let us all know if you figure out what happened.

Jerry.do a test wrap on a scrap with the gold thread and apply cp to one and not to the other.Apply the flex coat and see what happens. What kind of thread is it??May have silicone in it and one coat of cp was not enough.

Just from my experience, one maybe the thread, two maybe the CP, three maybe the CP brush, Or maybe somebody sprayed something in the room and not last, but you were contaminated???? You have to go back and test all the components that you used on the rod to try and eliminate the contamination, if you don't find it it can spread to other things in the room, and ruin other builds your going to be working on.

Just curious, but why did you use CP over the metallic thread? I'm not a big fan of CP, and never use it on metallics.
