adhesive for cork handle- 9 wt Sage fly rod

Good day fellow rodbuilders- I have on past rods used 2 part epoxies for securing my cork grips to the blank but the result is an extension of the stiffness of my reel seat through the full length of my grip. I am inquirying if anyone out there has used a more flexible adhesive thereby allowing flex through the handle? Would such an idea have merit for better feel through the fly rod? Or should I stick with 2 part epoxy?

Please advise,

Pete

What type of 2 part epoxy are you using? Rod bond and Lamar's 15 minute gel epoxies are both relatively flexible when compared to most 5 minute liquid epoxies.

I definitely recommend Rod Bond. It is more flexible, this will not only equate to a better "feel" but also to a better more cohesive bond IMO.

Tight bond III works quite well. One part, dries quick, easy clean up and never had a failure.

Are you installing a casting grip and a fighting grip and if so how long are each? If only a casting/fighting combo how long of a grip are you dealing with?

Hey Paul - are you talking about using Titebond III for gluing cork rings together, or actually bonding a grip or reel seat to a blank?

Just interrested.

Thanks,
Marc

Dave, Jim, and others.

Thanks for the advice- I'd always used the epoxies purchased at local hardware stores. This site is great for key information like you all are providing regarding Lamar or Rod Bond or Tight Bond gel epoxies. Many thanks!

Tom and others who are recommending rod bond, is that the product listed as: "U Rod Bond"? That seems to be the only product that I'm finding at suppliers that is "Rod Bond"-like with respect to its product name.

thanks for the input,

Pete
