i just ordered parts for my mates new rod and had intended to do the NGC setup but the rod builder at the shops said you will improve casting distance using normal high frame guides becasue theere will be less line slap, but isnt the point of teh NGC to have 3 high frame guides to get line going straight then drop down to fly guides for weight reduction and therefore better casting.
just didnt make sense to me any help would be apprreciated Re: Is This Correct??

The only place you will have line slap (if you have line slap) will be between the reel and butt guide after that the line pulling through the guides will reduce/restrict the line from spiraling around like it does when coming off the reel. You could use higher framed guide for the butt guide if you are having a problem with line slap.
But what I would suggest doing is to set up the rod using the NGC system and let your results determine which guides you need. Re: Is This Correct??

Steve has given you the correct information. Line slap is only a problem between the reel and the butt guide and occasionally between the first two guides if the rings are too large. No offense to the "rod builder at the shop" but like many he may not be up to speed on the more modern techniques. Many of them are still building rods they way they were built 30 or more years ago and that's fine - they work, but there have been more than a few advancements in that period of time.
