I doubt we could do it any better than we did in the magazine article and because it requires time between each step in order for things to set and cure, at best it would be similar to the photos you see in the article. We couldn't make one start to finish in an hour seminar. We'd have to do it like they do on cooking shows, where you explain a step (as we did in the magazine) then show the finished result of that step (like we did in the magazine) and so on and so forth (like we did in the magazine).
If you have any questions in particular just look me up at the show and ask. I'll be happy to help you with any areas you're not sure about. ............... Re: foam grips for Tom K

Tom, that is a most excellent technique and I'm really anxious to give it a try.
I apologize for asking another question in this thread, but I'm curious if a coloring agent can be added to the foam before pouring it into the mold. Thanks, Walt Davenport "Roadhouse Rods" Re: foam grips for Tom K

I haven't tried that aspect of coloring the foam. It's a closed cell product so I'm not sure how well it would work. If you were going to dye it, you'd certainly have to do it on the mixing process rather than waiting until after it's cured.

We only had room for so many seminars. If we can figure out somewhere to stick it, we might do some sort of demo on the technique on the fly. We'll have to see.

Another thing to consider if you are thinking about coloring it, and that is to use a chemical die that won’t react with the foam. It is possible that the wrong type would stop the chemical reaction between the two parts that causes the foam Re: foam grips for Tom K

That is the wall I have run into with the coloring question Steve....What type of coloring agent/pigment will work without impeding the chemical reaction. I figure to go right to the source and call/email the manufacturers after the holidays for their take on the subject as the thought of colored cores intrigues me for some strange reason that cannot be explained by science or controlled by my psychiatrist.
This stuff is REALLY nteresting. Derek L. McMaster Rohnert Park, CA Born to Fish, FORCED to Work Re: foam grips for Tom K

Derek and Steve, Exactly my concern. Derek if you get the answer I'd sure appreciate the info.
Tom, If there is any way to show this technique at the big show (even a static display) it would be great. I'd sure like a chance to get my hands on it before I try it; my head is spinning with ideas. The weight savings are huge but I can't wait to see the new art that this technique leads to. I'll certainly bring some grips for viewing. The thing is, it's a very easy technique. Most will get good results their first time out.

U'S' Composites sells pigments on there site but don't specify if it can be used with the foam. I have e-mailed them but they are closed until Jan 1st Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: foam grips for Tom K

Try and keep it simple, common food coloring that you can buy in the grocery store should work. I know it does with epoxy as I have used it for years. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
