I'm wrapping a 10-30 SW conventional rod. The guide wraps are Gb scarlet non ncp with metallic gold, trim bands. Wondering if anyone can recommend colors, base wrap and top for a tiger butt wrap. should I stick with the colors I'm using and go with gold underwrap????? The guides are black with gold rings.
thanks Re: tiger/holo wrap help

I'd try black and gold underwrap with the scarlet overwrap
you might do a test wrap on a scrap blank to see if you'll like it Re: tiger/holo wrap help

Lou do you have the Rodmaker Article for the Throop/Colby wrap technique? Re: tiger/holo wrap help

Did you use CP on the guide wraps? Re: tiger/holo wrap help

Good, because it wouldn't work if you didn't use CP but I'd first reread the article, then lay the gold and scarlet under, then CP, then epoxy with just the scarlet on top with CP. If you don't use CP your scarlet will turn transparent and the tiger effect will be lost. Re: tiger/holo wrap help

I've done some without the CP and depending on the color, it can work just fine.
I stick with a base wrap of black and NCP white or another light color, but on the top wrap, if you go with somethign that doesn't go transparent, but darkens without CP like a dark blue or red it works just fine. You don't get the original color of the thread, but rather a darker overall effect, but you still get the holo effect. I generally don't use CP on my guide wraps, and choose my colors accordingly - I wouldn't use yellow, or a light blue or pastel color without CP, but the darker colors can work. I'm guessing scarlet would only darken, and not go transparent, but I've not used it specifically myself. Re: tiger/holo wrap help

As Joshua just mentioned, the holo effect can be had without CP. I just did a holo wrap with a base wrap of garnet and NCP white (no cp), then a top wrap of garnet (no CP). Like he said, as long as your color is dark (and scarlet is plenty dark enough) then go for it. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
