I am building a switch rod and need some input on the grips. The blank is a 10ft. CTS 8 weight for steelhead and salmon. Can I use a standard reel seat or should I go for the spey style? How long should I make the lower grip and the upper grip? I was thinking the upper should be about 10 to 12 inches but I am in the dark as to the lower. Thank you for your imput. A few years ago I built a switch rod on a Dan Craft FT 10 Ft 10 weight. Click on the link below and read my first post at the top and it wll give you all the information along with the guide size and spacing that Bob Meiser suggested for the rod. Since I built it I have caught quite a number of steelhead and salmon with it and it works well both single & two handed. [www.rodbuilding.org] Bob Crook La Pine, OR Edited 1 time(s). Bob thank you for the information. This will be a great help, can't wait to get it done. I should have looked at some back posts for this job. Thank you again Jim Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
