Hi all,
A lot of the fishing done in my region is for Red Sea Bream that range from 2-20lb in size (the aussies amongst us would know them as snapper!) a frequent method is to use Gulp or Atomic 5-6" jerkshads on 1/4 - 3/4oz jigheads. Seeing as this style originated in the USA I figured there would be a standard blank used for this fishing style? What is it? I use a factory 25lb rated 'Barra Magnum' rod, (thanks to Paul Kneller of this forum) for this and find it superb. Would this be a Mag Bass blank? Say an MB805 (6'10" 25lb rated) or MB845 for something factory? Ben Re: What style of rod for heavier softbait use inshore?

My first thought, solely based on your information ... L844, L904, L905 in the G Loomis lineup. They are very reliable saltwater livebait blanks that also handle "deadsticking" or jerkbaits/swimbaits. Re: What style of rod for heavier softbait use inshore?

The nice thing about the Batson SW967 is that it also comes two piece ,if length is an issue, for just a few dollars more. The SW967F. Re: What style of rod for heavier softbait use inshore?

Try the PacBay 78X ("X" being a number, like 784 in the MB designation ("Mag Bass"). These are great sticks for the purpose. They come in 1pc and 2pc (depending on the model) and will handle what you've described and, properly built, will throw these baits an amazing disfance.

Date: October 31, 2007 10:44AM I would hate to deal with a 20lb snapper on a "mag bass" blank. I fish soft plastics for over slot snook here in my area with the Loomis Musky series blanks. I use the lightest in the series, a 7'2" rated for 15-30lb. They're remarkably light for what they are. Re: What style of rod for heavier softbait use inshore?

Musky isn't a bad idea, have just never handled one to know what they are like, but have handled the MB's
Just of interest, This is the snapper I am talking about Me with a fish around 5lb [images.benandmichelle.net] a mate with a fish around 12lb [images.benandmichelle.net] Not the Lutjanid family, which amongst others the most commonly caught of the family here (Coffs Harbour) is the Mangrove Jack (Not my picture) [images.benandmichelle.net] I also would hate to be hooked up to a 20lb mangrove jack on an MB rod., or any tackle... I know who would win mostly in that stoush Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
