Justin,
Use the "search" button with key words "tiger wrap" and use all dates. You should get enough bits & pieces for a start. Jeff's suggestion is the best one though. Scott Throop & Bill Colby went into full detail into how the wraps are done and how best to obtain the best results. Way to much info to post on the forum. In a nutshell, you are tricking the eye into seeing something that isn't there. A bottom layer of two high contrast threads is wrapped and finished and then overlaid with another layer of two threads wrapped in the opposite direction. One thread on the top layer is then removed. This preserves the spacing of the remaining thread that is necessary for the effect to take place. This is pretty much the basic instruction on the technique.
The technique is fairly easy, yet requires a strict adherence to certain guidelines that you can find in the article. .................... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/23/2007 09:13AM by Tom Kirkman. Re: Tiger Wrap

Just my two cents, use the same size thread all the way through. I just did one with A underwraps and D overwraps, and you cannot see the effect at all. Re: Tiger Wrap

Right, that's one of the little particulars that you can find in the article. Having the full information can save you a lot of time and wasted effort.

Ah, Russell,,, but B over D does have effect. One of those things I played around with. Mixing B&D on the bottom and top, then pulling the D on the top also has effect, with more color reveal. There's an endless amount of toying possible, including with the distance between the layers.
One thing I seem to remember some folks missed even in the article at first was to wrap the upper and lower levels in different directions Re: Tiger Wrap

Cool I'll have to try that. I didn't even notice that I had use the size d on top until after I had pulled the sacrificial thread. It didn't look typical, but I went ahead and epoxied it anyway stuck a decal, a little marbling and voila'. Looks ok anyhow. Thanks for the tip on the other thread size Dave, I'll have to go do a little mad scientist stuff now. Thanks. Re: Tiger Wrap

Lots of games to play. Try putting that shiny mylar in the gift wrap paper section on the bottom first. Wrap and pull off a thread, then do the same as normal on the top too. Pretty flashy! Re: Tiger Wrap

I followed the instructions in Rodmaker Mag. for the tiger wrap butt wrap.
It turned out great the first time I tried it. The detailed instructions were easy to follow. My fishing buddies were impressed at the look. And kept asking how I did it. I hope Rodmaker keeps up the great info. on new ideas and processes. cool wraps, Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
