A buddy of mine ask me to build a rod for him like one he saw that Shimano makes. He said the rod has a notch in the foregrip for your finger to sit said it make the rod ultra sensitive anyone ever seen anything like this. Re: New Blank

I assume he means that a means is provided for your finger to actually tough the rod blank. I haven't seen one but surely you could easily fashion something like this yourself.

This is from shimano web site
New for 2006, selected Calcutta Inshore spinning models will feature an exposed blank foregrip and reargrip. This blank exposed area within the cork foregrip and reargrip allows for maximum sensitivity and comfort to detect the subtle of bites. Re: New Blank

Justin,
There are a lot of rods like that. Theoretically you will feel the tap better with your finger on the blank. There are at least two Shimano rod series that have what you are looking for. The casting rods have the feature built into the reel seat. So that will be easy for you - if you can buy them. Some of the spinning rods have the cut-away foregrip. You do not state if it is spinning or casting. The two series are "Compre Casting Crank Bait" and the "Crucial Casting" series. it should be fairly easy to do if thats what he wants.
you might talk your buddy into leaving the foregrip off altogether, that way he can easily get a finger (or two) on the blank without the cork there at all. just a thought Re: New Blank

Like Josh said. Leave the forgrip off altogether and use a winding check or an epoxy ramp. That and a split rear grip will do the trick much better than the Shimano Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: New Blank

I agree with mike I build most of mine that way split grip no fore grip with a winding check. I do put a foregrip on my spinning rods but I love the split grip effect looks nice also give you alot of options between the split grip to marble tiger wrap or whatever you want . I also put my names there. Brent Keever Building friendships through custom rods Re: New Blank

Looks like they are bringing back all the old stuff. Non-ceramics guides are all the sudden the best again. Illustrations of this procedure and how to do it are in Clemens' book from the 80's. A new generation of Wally World anglers to hype. Where were all these great insights for the time period from then to now? Re: New Blank

Sorry it will be a spinning rod 10-15# class used for redfish and speckle trout. Re: New Blank

Justin;
If you truly want to build him a sensitive rod then I would consider doing some similar to what is on the cover of the 10-4 of rod maker. That way hey can lay his thumb on the blank and wrap his forefinger around the bottom side. Re: New Blank

the shimano crucials have the cut out in the for grip. Its on their dropshot rods and has a split but and a hook to hold the drop shot sinker. The way it is made with an uplocking reelseat and where your hand naturaly sits and where your index finger crosses the bottom of the blank it has a litte cut out that exposes about 1/2 inch of the blank. Looks like an exposed reel seat on a casting rod. Re: New Blank

If you go to the Shimano website and look at the Calcutta indhore rods they have a spinning rod where the forefrip si notched for your finger what something like that but can't find it anywhere. Re: New Blank

No big deal ... build your foregrip normally and ream it to fit. Then remove it and use a belt sander to take it down in the center all the way into the "open space" - touch it up and install it. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
