In referance to sealed rods, there is not likely to be any effect at all. A liquid or gas within a sealed vessal takes on the shape of that vessel, whatever it may be.
When the rod flexes and the cross section becomes elliptical, you have not changed the area, only the shape. Even if area was to change and cause a pressure change it is equal and undiminished in all directions within the vessel and being spread out over every square inch of the internal area, unlikely to have any effect. Date: October 12, 2007 05:03AM OK, thanks to all who politely corrected my stance. I was thinking more along the lines of "Wizard of Oz" and high altitude fishing with an inflated rod. No technical limits and a dose of humor. There are so many things in our lives today that where deemed "technically impossible" in the past. 1910, forgot his name, the head of the patten office wrote a letter to the President stating we should close down the patten office. And I quote, "because everything that can be invented, has been invented". Keep in mind toilet tissue was invented shortly after and slice sandwich bread in the 30's. Can you imagine what the fiberglass fisherman thought when they heard the rumors of a new fishing pole made with a powdery substance call graphite? Surely technically impossible. If you can dream it, its possible. A fact! So, yes, given all the assumptions, I can't see how. But maybe someone smarter than I can! Thank you for your time gentlemen, have a fantastic day. ~Mark Re: Helium filled

Unless I've missed something, and that's possible, Kistler makes no claims that the rods are filled with Helium. The name is used only to infer how light these rods supposedly feel.

Since we solved the mystery of the manufacturing origin of RX 8+s on another thread maybe someone also may care to start a rumor as to the origin of the Helium Hi Flyers -
Tom I personally think you have missed that the people conducting sales sessions, like the one that started this thread, take the Kistler advertising past the limit of good common sense. People are TOLD the rods containing Helium are lighter by testimony of staff fishermen or at least that is what their customers think they hear because they sure repeat it over and over - When all the stuff about ampli fibers from reel seat to butt, lighter seat, no foregrip are thrown on top of the pile it is a pretty convincing sales pitch. Kistler is doing one whale of a job in marketing across the board - I was just notified by Skeeter Boat Management that I as a custom builder will not be allowed to use the Skeeter Logo on a custom rod built for a Skeeter Boat owner. Kistler has this locked up too! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/12/2007 06:17PM by Bill Stevens. Re: Helium filled
