I am just wondering if you should epoxy the underwrap for guides? I am using "A" thread for the underwrap and "C" thread for wrapping the guide. Re: finish on underwraps?

I don't think it is something that is typically done. However it is your rod and you can do what you would like to! Re: finish on underwraps?

I have never used underwraps before so I am just concerned that Thread master high-build won't penetrate the underwraps completely. Re: finish on underwraps?

I do a layer of epoxy on every layer.... underwrap, first overwrap, second overwrap, etc. I personally feel that it gives you a bond that just cant be beat. But most of what I'm building these days is really heavy duty stuff for tuna or shark, so I just want to make sure there is no point of failure in the product I'm selling. Also it makes your overwraps easier, especially if you are switching sizes of thread. Obviously D over A is no big deal but try doing A over D.... not so easy without a smooth surface to work with.

Use the low build, from my experience the high is to thick to release the bubbles that tend come up very slowly from underwraps. If if you use the high then heat it pretty warm to thin it enough to get it under the wraps and get the air out quickly. Re: finish on underwraps?

I've been using perma gloss as the first few coats of finish with underwraped guides. It is very thin and penetrates very well. It should take about three coats with a over a. then finish with your favorite two part finish. Re: finish on underwraps?
