Memory in fiberglass blank

Before I started building rods it never occured to me to check my rod for straightness after fishing.
Do all glass blanks have memory? One of the first blanks I purchased seemed horribly bent when I mounted the reel seat to the straightest axis, belly down, tip up. Eventually I did a static placement test and set up the guides. Wondering if I really wanted to build crooked rod I eyeballed the blank again and saw that it was now belly up! Then I bent it over backwards, now it is pretty straight. Whats up with this blank? Re: Memory in fiberglass blank

AT 60% off this discontinued blank still cost me $40 plus shipping. It was 8 foot untill I cut six inches of the butt. Moderate fast action 15-30 lb line rating. the tip will be off center half to one and a half inches after putting a good bend in the rod. Is that normal for glass? Re: Memory in fiberglass blank

Not really normal. Glass can soften with use and time, but something is amiss here if you can put a "set" in the rod with a single flex.

I think there is a 60 day warranty on those blanks. Re: Memory in fiberglass blank

Thanks guys, I figured that was a bum blank. The warranty is expired but I can salvage the grip assembly and use the rest for scrap. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
