Broke my T&T Horizon on a Bluefish and I think that maybe the ferrule was loose. So, check your rod now and then and avoid the painful experience. Or, maybe I tried to horse in the fish too fast and put too much pressure on the rod. Bill Giokas Re: Broke mu rod on a Bluefish.

Man, you guys are really making Bill feel better I'm sure, LOL. Bill, I hope eating his smoked or broiled fillets made the incident more bearable. The loose ferrule is probably the culprit if it broke at or just above the ferrule. Re: Broke mu rod on a Bluefish.

I must say that I really enjoy catching bluegill, sunfish, crappie and small bass on light tackle. They can be a blast, and there are so many of them! Those guys like Billy in the northeast just dont appreciate them (lol). Chase Foster American Tackle www.americantackle.us Re: Broke mu rod on a Bluefish.

Looking back I realize I may need to touch up on my reading skills. Must have bluegills on the mind, haven't been fishing in 3 weeks and it is making me stir crazy. Sorry for that fellas. Especially to Billy (lol) Chase Foster American Tackle www.americantackle.us Re: Broke mu rod on a Bluefish.

I think Stripers are a lot dumber...
I may be numb, but I still love them. Billy, take off your pink shoes and try them on a fly rod or light tackle. They rock..lol Re: Broke mu rod on a Bluefish.

Catchiing Blueifsh is punishment. Catching them on purpose is torture. Chase, you get those Coctail BLues up by Daytona Beach, although I'm sure there's a lot more to do up tehre than chase 3# nastyness.
Stripers are dumb too. And fight like a 10# cork/bobber. Re: Broke mu rod on a Bluefish.

Billy
You ever caught the offshore blues? They run 10-15+lbs...They really give you a battle. Snapper blues I like to live line... Never caught a tog, so I have no idea if they are of the pansy variety.. Re: Broke mu rod on a Bluefish.

I'll take stripers and blues any day, any where. I grew up on them in Chesapeake Bay and offshore.
I'll match 15-20lb blues and 40lb stripers against a whole lot of other fish, anytime. Surf, fly, light spin - or heavy spin - river, sound, open water - doesn't matter. Baked, grilled, fried, stuffed - doesn't matter. Uncle Russ Calico Crfeek Rods Re: Broke mu rod on a Bluefish.

Bluefish get an undeserved bad rap. I fish almost exclusively from shore, but having said that, I'll take blues just about any time, anywhere. The small ones (5 lbs. and under) are marvelous to eat, and the bigger ones offer world-class sport. Go ahead and leave the bluefishing to me -- I'll gladly take it. Re: Broke mu rod on a Bluefish.

Like Cris and others, I fish from shore and love catching bluefish, particularly Hatteras ones. Bluefish is my favorite fish to eat (smaller ones) if bleeded right away, iced down, salted and fried as soon as possible.

1-2 lb blues make good live bait for cobia and smoker kings. Smaller ones are amberjack candy - use them all the time towers SE of Virginia Beach, VA. I hate them when they chew off expensive tackle.
