I know this has been dealt with before and I have tried every trick I know about. I am changing guides guides on a rod where I did not use cp. It though to get the thread of, but I managed. Under the old wraps there is some residue of the epoxy, that looks like wax, but hard to take away and the epoxy left where there was no thread. Ihave tried heat, alcohol, sponge, knife but nothing is 100 percent sucsess. Any input? Re: How to remove epoxy?

Get a piece of plastic with sharper edges, Something that won't scrach the blank, but is hard enough to remove the epoxy when scratching the blank. U might use the hairdryer as wel to help u soften the epoxy. That's the way i do it, but some other methods might work better. Re: How to remove epoxy?

I warm it with a hair dryer and scrub it with a popcicle stick. Sometimes on a matte finish blank you will see where the guide was and you're stuck with that faint image. Resist the urge to use acetone to remove the last bit of residue. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/15/2007 12:07PM by Chuck Mills. Re: How to remove epoxy?

An old credit card works well also with Chucks method.

I use the heat and Gudebrod's thread burnishing tool (the opposite side for burnishing has a sharp edge on it). Putter Williston, ND Re: How to remove epoxy?

A plastic disposable putty knife is the best tool I've found for removing epoxy from a rod blank. Heat the epoxy with a hair dryer, then carefully remove the epoxy. You can put a fine scraper edge on one of these plastic wonders, 90 degrees to the flat side, with any sander. If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again.
