Purchased this blank a while back, love the finish. Problem is I don't really know where to start with it.
I found out from Batson the rod is wrapped primarily as a float rod. I've never built one of those, was thinking to build it as a spinning rod and was wondering if anyone else had done the same. If so, would you mind giving me a ball-park figure as to what guide sizes you used? I wish there were more blanks in this color, it is beautiful. Thanks, Phil Re: XST 1141 help

Phil,
The 1141 blanks made by anyone were around long before the float technique, and have always been used as a light line summer steelhead drift blank in the spinning configuration. In low, clear water conditions they are superb. Now they are used all season for side drifting from drift boats or sleds for steelhead and silver salmon, and are about where most consider as the minimum length for a float rod. Probably more are built in the spinning configuration for this than any other style easily. What reel your using will dictate guide sizes and so will the guides, as all have varied heights. In Fuji alconites I usually use 20-12-8- that #6 fly guides to the tip. Amtack, Pac Bay, Batson non M series guides would be the same height pretty much one size bigger ring. Am Tack Titans are sort of in between height, the M style guides which I use a lot of on this blank are taller than all the others but I usually start with a 20. These sizes are for 200-2500 sized spinning rod spools or reels with similar spool diameters. You see 8 used most, than 6, than 4 lb line. If your going to have a chance at big native fish and the current/cover conditions are heavy this is not the rod to use from the bank. I've had more fish not recover from the fight with this weight rod than the heavier ones. There's nothing more fun than have a fish run between your legs with a 9 1/2 ft rod in your hands by the way. LOL. Re: XST 1141 help

Cool! Thanks for the info. That's exactly the type of info I needed. I don't plan on doing the float technique anytime soon, but figured that the rod may work for smaller Japanese cherry salmon.
Thanks again. Phil Re: XST 1141 help
