Greetings folks.
I am building as dual purpose rods, using low riders, a 12' Universal and an 11' Estuary. I am about the wrap the rods and would like some suggestions on what regular nylon thread colors might work. I am a little tired of using black thread with gold trim. I am happy with fairly simple wraps, and would prefer to stay with one color or regular nylon (no NCP) and I don't want to mess with color preserver. I realize that this will limit my possibilities but I am pretty happy with a simple design. I am also not great with matching colors. The challenge for me is figuring out how the thread will look once it is expoxied. Right now, for simplicity's sake, I am looking at regular nylon under wrap (A thread) and over wrap (D, C, or A doubled over) with metallic trim bands. I really like how regular nylon sparkles in the light. I was thinking of doing two of the following combinations. (The blanks are shiny black). Purple main wrap with gold or silver trim Garnet main wrap with gold or silver trim Green main, gold trim Blue main, gold trim. I have some other metaillic threats like green, blues, fuschia, copper and I have some other colors (yellow and red). Any recommendations from those witha better sense of color would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tom Re: Thread Color Advice for AFAW Rods

Tom, I just did a Rainshadow RX8+ rod (black satin blank). I used Gudebrod Garnet with gold trim. I did use CP, but I did a sample without CP and it looks good on black. Very subtle, classy color IMO.
The pictures stink but I have some at home I could email you if you'd like. Chuck Re: Thread Color Advice for AFAW Rods

I've used all the colors you've suggested, and I agree with Chuck, the Garnet looks the best on black. Subtle and classy, is spot on. Trim color would depend if I was trying to match any components. Re: Thread Color Advice for AFAW Rods

Why not pull out your thread and do a few sample wraps on a scrap blank or a wooden dowel painted black and put your finish on. You can do four or five test wraps then pick the one you like the best. You can get 50 different color combinationd from 50 different people but you can't see what it looks like until you do it yourself. Re: Thread Color Advice for AFAW Rods

To see how it would look without having to mix finish, simply wet the wraps with Alcohol.
it will mimic the look as if finished, but then dispate in a few minutes. Hope this helps all those who wonder how a wrap will look if finished. How about Garnet/Copper, or Green/Teal metalic. Re: Thread Color Advice for AFAW Rods

My sincere thanks to eveyone who helped with my question. I think I am going to go with the Garnet with gold time for one rod and then I'll try purple with silver trim (or green/teal) on the other. I will try apply alcohol to see how the wrap fades. Thanks again. Tom Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
