Hey Folks, new to the board and I am quite the amateur builder. Love it though! Quick question: Can you substitute rod building thread with regualar sewing thread if it's comparable in size/diameter...etc...? Thanks for responses! Have a great day!

Your rods will turn out much better and last for a longer time if you stick with thread that was made for building fishing rods. There are many differences that can cause you undue trouble. Generally can you use it - Yes - Should you use it Probably Not - Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/09/2007 01:46PM by Bill Stevens. Re: Thread

One of the most popular threads is Madeira PolyNeon 40 (a sewing thread), Coats & Clark Triblobal, Sulky, etc iarealso used quite a bit. You want to make certain that any sewing thread that you use is POLYESTOR, Rayon, Cotton, etc can cause a lot of problems. Use CP with any sewing thread since it is often coated with a silicon lubricant for sewing machine use. Size 40 is just a hair smaller than A. If in doubt, test it on scrap or dowel. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
