Hello,

Thanks to you guys, I've finished 3 beautiful fly rods. Now I going to the next level & make a birch bark handle w/ ivory & buffalo horn trims. Just wondering if you guys have any glue recommendations for a novice like me.

Thanks in advance,

JD

I would go with Rod Bond or Lamar 15 minute gel. You get more working time with the Rod Bond if you need it.
But with Birch Bark it is better to do small sections and join them together whenther are set up. With the 15 minute gel you can get done a little faster.

Dave

I have never used ivory or buffalo horn for trim, but I was talking to a jeweler the other day and he likes to use slow setting epoxy when he joins ivory to silver inlays. I'm sure that the epoxy works on birch bark and if it will hold ivory to silver it should hold ivory to birch bark. I have used 30 minute epoxy to join wood and aluminum and it seems to work well so it should work for your project.

I have made many rods with these materials and I have never had one fail yet.....knock on wood.

I use both the 5 minute and 30 minute epoxy with 100% success.

Good Luck

Terry

I have had extremely good results using Rod Bond to glue ivory to wood when making fly rod grips.
