I have built a couple of spinning rods using Tom's tutorial on New Concept Guide placement on this website. The rods have worked quite well. I used Fuji Alconite New Concept guides.(BYAG)
I have read and reread the recent articles in Rodmaker, and understand pretty well how to place, space and test the guides. One thing is not clear to me is whether the spacing and placement guidelines will work for other manufacturers guides - or- are they specific to Fuji New Concept guides? Is there some lower guide height that makes the system work better? Do other manufacturers make guides that mimic the Fuji guides - or - can use use pretty much any spinning guide offered? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have reviewed the catalogs for guide height, etc, and was not able to determine anything. Regards Bert Nagy Re: New Guide Concept System

I'm not sure I understand the question exactly.
The spacing and placement dictate what guides you will use. If a guide won't hit the straight line path, then it's too low or too small. Any guide will work provided it fullfills the criteria the system dictates. You'll know if a guide is too low or too small if it fails to provide the line path outlined in the article. ............. Bert, the system works best for me with high-frame single foot spinning guides. The Fuji Concept guides fall into that category. I have also used the American Tackle A-Frame guides (very nice!) and, recently, the Batson VS-III guides. I was worried that the Batson guides might be heavy due to the third leg (I went cheap and ordered 3 guides just to check) but the ring is quite thin and a set of 3 (size 25, 12 and 8) weighed the same as Fuji Alconites on my digital postage scale. Both the Batson VS-III and the AMTAK A-Frames give you some color options which is a plus.
As Tom said, you can use any guide you want to achieve the straight line path. If you use "standard" height guides you might have to go up a ring size and that adds some weight. Chuck Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
