I have read somewhere that on the Batson reamers they use super glue to hold the sand paper on with, I am making my own reamers and was wondering whether to use CA or contact cement for gluing the paper on the reamer?
I will guess that the CA has a higher heat level than contact cement! Re: contact cement or super glue for reamers

Use super glue or epoxy and it will fall apart. Use contact ement and you can expext your reamer to last for years. Re: contact cement or super glue for reamers

Lance is right, if you use power the epoxy/glue heats up and comes off. I have some reamers I made 3 or 4 yrs. ago using the contact cement and have reamed reel seats, plastic grips you name it and have had no problems. Jesse Re: contact cement or super glue for reamers

THe FC reamer abrasive specifically states to use Contact Cement. Re: contact cement or super glue for reamers

I am speaking from experience. My home made reamers last a long time. I've been making reamers from scrap blanks epoxy and loose grit since I learned how to make them here on site. I use a round file in a drill to ream the cork or arbors and finish by hand with the reamer. Or, I drill out the cork rings to the size of the biggest mandrel that is smaller than or the same size as the blank, epoxy them together, finish the grip and then hand ream to an exact fit. I haven't made a reamer by spiraling a roll of sandpaper onto a blank yet. So I guess I'm talking apples to your oranges. If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Ralph more like comparing apples to sour grapes -
There is a lot of difference in bonding loose grit and backing paper to a glass or graphite shaft. Re: contact cement or super glue for reamers

What is this "sour grape" garbage? "There is a lot of difference in bonding loose grit and backing paper to a glass or graphite shaft." No kidding! " So I guess I'm talking apples to your oranges." Lance if you would send me the contact cement you are using I would like to give it a try. I have been using 20 grit and Lock tite gel super glue to tack the strip then Rod bond all the way up and tacking it again with the Lock tite. Then I rub a bit of rod bond on the very end and wipe clean no problemo doing that but it does take a bit of time and I think the contact cement would be much faster.. Karry, I dont' mean to speak for Lance, nor have I used my reamers on the vloume of grips he has, but Weldwood Contact Cement is probably the best choice for a contact cement there is. The Red can, not teh green. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
