REC PLRN

I'm building a 2-wt and chose REC's PLRN reel seat. I was warned beforehand - and it turned out to be true - that the reel (Orvis' CFO I) feet are just a bit too large to fit within the bands.

How would you recommend I go about 'turning down' the cork to accomodate the reel feet? Reduce the diameter of the entire seat under the rings? If I were to take down just the area under the reel feet what technique/tool would you recommend? Thanks for any advice.

You could just sand a "flat" on the area where the reel would sit. That should do it.

That's exactly what I did. I ran a dremel sanding barrel across the top. It's like mortised without a mortise bit. I've also sanded with a sanding block an oval shape on one for use with an old Hardy reel. Some older Hardy's have a very thin reel foot, and that worked great. Needless to say, it has to be done before installation. (ask me how I know!)
