Ok.. I've read through all the various posts, or a large number of them.

What is the point of Permagloss?
Why would I use it over normal epoxy?
If I apply it straight to wraps, should I still use CP?

I think one of my problems is there was so much out there on it, I'm getting confused. A simple quick explanation would be great. Thanks for your patience on this one!

The point of permagloss is that it is a one part urethane finish that is easy to apply, dries fast, and very durable. It stays clear and is flexible. It is very low build, so multiple coats are required depending on the finish depth you are looking for.

The downside to PG is the odor and fumes.

I use permagloss UNDER two part epoxies. It really penetrates the thread and makes applying the epoxy a more bubble free event.

If you want the color to stay, use cp.

It can also be used as a finish on wood such as reel seats, and putting a gloss finish on rod blanks.

The only reason I use it is to refinish blanks, not that you can't use it with thread wraps but it takes many coats and is hard to keep level.

After a bout of skin rash possiby associated with epoxies, I've been using PG exclusively for a finish and dont know why I didnt from the beginning. It's more durable, no mixing is required, has multiple uses, and I've come to prefer the look over epoxy. I do still CP the threads. Nothing better IMO.

Thumbs Up Steven with one exception! Black is my color and CP is very well concealed in my shop except for creating a stark white background for NCP White over silver metallic. The bass boys will even sign off on the different appearance of Perma Gloss if they feel it results in a lighter build with superior abrasion resistance.

Several coats of PG will make a nice gloss finish on cork grips.

Russ, wow, Cork? Doesn't that make it feel slick and synthetic? Or does it still retain the cork feel?

Anyone else does this? Novel idea.

The main reason I use permagloss is that it doesn't require a drying stand. The light, low-build finish is an added benefit. I used to have problems with bubbles forming until I read someone's post about waiting overnight after applying the first coat. After that, there's no problem with only waiting an hour between coats.

Since that dang Russ had to let the "cat out of the bag" :-) .....I use permagloss on ALL my cork grips. I do several things with it once on the grips, depending on what look and feel I'm wanting.

Permagloss is great stuff. Nothing is better as a rod blank finish. On wraps, if I don't use CP, I use it as a sealer for reasons mentioned. When I use epoxy as a finish, which is my norm, I use one coat over the epoxy finish, as a finish on top of finish. It brightens the look and gives even more durability over whatever finish I use.

Never used it on cork/wood. I'm going to start playing with it though to see if it as as tough and visually and operationally as pleasing as what I normally use.

Ever since Billy V's post I have been using it on crosswraps after two coats of U-40 Color lock and it really seals up the thread and makes the epoxy look much smoother and brighter. Now if I can just keep it from drying up in the neck. Sure does stink though.
